Sorum pleads innocent to beating wife

MALIBU, Calif., May 23 -- Matthew Sorum, the drummer for the rock group Guns N' Roses, pleaded innocent Monday to beating his wife at their Malibu home.

Sorum, 33, was charged with one misdemeanor count of spousal abuse for allegedly beating his wife Kai, 25, on May 7.

Deputy District Attorney Mike Wilson said Sorum's wife had scratches and bruises on her body when sheriff's deputies arrived at the home on Mansie Lane.

Municipal Court Judge Lawrence Mira scheduled a June 24 pretrial hearing for the rock star. He was released on his own recognizance.
