Moby To Produce Guns N' Roses?

As strange as it may sound, electronic music pioneer Moby is very close to agreeing to produce the next album from metal mavens Guns N' Roses. "At the risk of sounding like a sleazy music biz guy, I met with Axl last week to hear their new demos," said Moby while he was discussing the future of electronica on a panel at Austin, Texas' South by Southwest Conference. "They're writing with a lot of loops, and believe it or not, they're doing it better than anybody I've heard lately." If you think about it, it's actually not so unusual: Moby actually moved his sound more into a rock guitar vein on his most recent album, Animal Rights, and Guns N' Roses have been searching for a way to modernize their sound on what figures to be a make or break album for them. And Moby is a bit of a chameleon, and loves to surprise the public with his tastes. On the same panel, he even went so far as to say, "There's a cheesy part of me that loves the Macarena," and "Sometimes I refer to the tastes of my 12- year-old cousin. He likes really good pop music."

The Guns N' Roses camp could not be reached for comment.
