1989.04.28 - Hard n' Heavy Video Magazine - Interview with Axl at "Club With No Name"
TRANSCRIPTION:
------------------
Dayle Gloria: My name is Dayle, um, Rose (laughs).
Axl (chuckles): Axl Rose.
Dayle Gloria: Yeah, right. We’re at the "Club With No Name". It used to be Scream, as it’ll always be Scream in my heart. We’re at the "Club With No Name" and tonight we’ve got Mother Love Bone from Seattle, and from England we’ve got The Dogs D’ Amour in their last L.A. appearance...
Axl: Which will be their first L.A. appearance, as I see it.
Dayle Gloria: The wildest thing that ever happened here was when... (to Axl) I hope you want to hear the story.
Axl: Yeah.
Dayle Gloria:... at the Cathouse one night on a Tuesday, and this girl was giving head to some guy in the VIP lounge, and he, like, squirted on her face, and she went up to the bartender, Lisa, and said, “Can I have a towel? (?)
Axl: (Laughs)
Dayle Gloria: It was on her face, like, everywhere and they always say...
Axl: Where’s she at tonight?
Dayle Gloria: They always say that protein makes your skin look really young!
(Axl's friend, Dave Lank, grabs her and lifts her up)
Dayle Gloria (screams): No, no, no!
Dave Lank: You’re on tape! You’re on tape!
Dayle Gloria (laughing): Oh god, I can’t believe you did that!
Dave Lank (laughing): That’s the craziest tape that’s ever happened!
Axl: This is a video magazine. That was really good.
Dayle Gloria: They’ll see that in Japan and England!
Axl: This is my oldest friend in the world. We grew up together. We’re two halves of the same person.
Dave Lank: Two halves, man.
Axl: Twin sons out of different mothers.
Dayle Gloria: And you know that this band played at my club, like, 3 ½ years ago for, like, next to no money (laughs). I can’t believe it. And everybody said they were gonna make it big except for my (?) (laughs)
Interviewer (talks over): Axl, how much did she pay you then?
Axl: Yeah. Except for her partner. Her partner didn’t think that would happen.
Dayle Gloria (talks over): (?) My ex-partner was the only one who thought (?)
Axl (to the camera): This is for England?
Dayle Gloria(talks over): It’s for England and Japan.
Interviewer: Yeah. All over the world.
Dave Lank (talks over): I’ll tell you what. I bet she didn’t (?)
Axl: We miss England. We miss England. Japan was great, we miss England. I hope that when we will do our next tour we can plan out something really big and do it right for Europe. We had a lot of fun when we did our last tour over there and we would like to make it a lot more special next time. Who knows when we’ll play again. [cut]
Axl: What else to talk about?
Dayle Gloria: Um, how much we love Jane’s Addiction. (?) Cheers, Jane’s Addiction.
Axl: Jane’s Addiction was great.
Dayle Gloria: We love them. Axl went and saw them tonight. We’re having a big party for them tomorrow night at 11:00.
[cut to Jane’s Addiction Mountain Song video]
Interviewer: What are you doing these days?
Axl: What am I doing? Trying to get our shit together. Possibly to make a record, maybe make a movie, plan a really big tour and some really scary big fucking show!

I can't figure the date of this. Axl wore this jacket in late 1989, but this isn't much of a hint.
I think - I'm almost sure - that Axl's friend is Dave Lank.

The date must be April 28 or 29, 1989. That's the date when Mother Love Bone opened for Dogs D'Amour at the "Club with No Name" in Hollywood.

Here's a review of sorts:

It seems like the name of the lady in the video is Dayle Gloria, she was the promoter for the Mother Love Bone/Dogs D'Amour gig.

According to setlist.fm, The Dogs D'Amour played on April 28, 1989. So I am leaning towards April 28 over April 29 (since the setlist entry for Dogs D'Amour and the Spin article is in agreement whereas only the setlist entry for MLB disagrees).

Here's a clip from the MLB show, the video also says April 28:

Re: 1989.04.28 - Hard n' Heavy Video Magazine - Interview with Axl at "Club With No Name"
Interestingly, April 28, 1989, is the night when Axl supposedly shot a pig:
"Guns N' Roses were at the centre of controversy again this week with reports in the US press that singer Axl Rose had shot a five pig at a barbecue. The incident is said to have taken place after Axl attended the premiere of Depeche Mode's 101 movie in Hollywood [on April 28, 1989]. Axl introduced himself to the band by reciting the lyric's to Depeche's `Somebody' and declared that he was a big fan of the band. He took the British technopoppers to the Cat House, his favourite heavy metal club. Later that night Axl reportedly went on to a barbecue at a friend's house in Beverley Hills and shot a live pig. It is not clear whether Depeche were at the barbecue. A spokesman denied that they, were presents Singer Dave Gahan said he'd heard that a cow, not a pig had been done to death. "As strict vegetarians the band were appalled by his behaviour and do not wish to associate themselves with any who goes round shooting pigs for fun," said a Mode spokesman at Mute Records" [New Musical Express, June 1989].
In other words, this must have been a busy night for Axl.

So busy that he would've had to clone himself to attend all those events

I wonder if one of the two dates is wrong (e.g. if there was a private avant-premiere of the Depeche Mode movie before April 28) or if the barbecue story is just bogus.
--------
Anyway, it seems that the source of this interview is Hard n' Heavy Video Magazine vol.3 (1989), so I'll update the title and the drop-down menu.

The thought occurred to me as well that he must have been a bit too busy that night

Re: 1989.04.28 - Hard n' Heavy Video Magazine - Interview with Axl at "Club With No Name"
According to Tyla J. Pallas, lead singer of the band Dogs D'Amour, Axl was was thrown out of the Club With No Name that night (really a busy day for Axl, as we have discussed); The Edinburgh Reporter, July 28, 2023:
[...] Tyla is known for his artwork, songwriting and the band’s wild image that saw the Dogs compared to the likes of the Faces, the Rolling Stones and Guns N’ Roses. While the latter was known as ‘the most dangerous band in the world’ Axl Rose was thrown out of a Dogs D’Amour gig after a fight with the band’s crew.
“We were playing at the Club With No Name in L.A, and there was an altercation with our roadie John who was a big fan of Guns N’ Roses and he got into a fight with Axl and had him thrown out. I’ve since had contact with Duff and Slash in the band, with Guns N’ Roses on tour I wonder when Axl is going to give us a crack, (at supporting).” [...]

Coming back to this, the pig shooting happened earlier in April since it had been reported by LA Weekly already on April 21 (https://www.a-4-d.com/t4988-10-1989-things-unravel#19282). Would have been cool to have the exact dates of Axl shooting the pig and the barbeque at Miller's house when Axl stopped a drunk driver.
