Film 'It's So Easy and Other Lies' also features commentary from Pearl Jam's Mike McCready, Nikki Sixx and others

Just weeks before Guns N’ Roses mount a massive arena tour – with classic-lineup members Duff McKagan and Slash back in the fold – bassist McKagan is putting out a documentary about his life story. The film, It’s So Easy and Other Lies, captures a special performance he held at a Seattle Theatre in 2013 when he was promoting his like-titled first memoir. It’s due out this summer.

A trailer, which is premiering here, shows a mix of animation, performance and talking-head commentary, beginning with the story of how the bassist left Seattle for Los Angeles and ultimately met his Guns N’ Roses bandmates. Slash, Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready and Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx all make appearances and lend commentary.

The clip begins with an overlapping account of how McKagan came to join GN’R after answering a “musician wanted” classified in a local paper. “I put an ad in the Recycler, and in walked this six-foot-plus guy in a red-and-black, full-length trench coat,” Slash recalls. Then McKagan, filmed at his show, takes over: “I walked in, looked at the first booth on the left and saw all this hair,” he says.

It also recounts how alcohol eventually got the better of the bassist. McKagan talks about enduring a sharp, stabbing pain that made him wish for death. “And that was all the rehab I needed,” he says. Later, after the bassist talks about the things he lives for, a montage of his family plays.

Filmmaker Christopher Duddy, who previously worked on visual effects for Terminator 2, Total Recall and Titanic, directed the documentary. Screenings of It’s So Easy and Other Lies will take place around the country on May 26th and June 1st, and the film opens exclusively in L.A. on June 3rd.

Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan will release a documentary about his life, "It's So Easy And Other Lies: Live At The Moore", this summer. The film, which was directed by filmmaker Christopher Duddy, who previously worked on visual effects for "Terminator 2", "Total Recall" and "Titanic", captures a special performance Duff held in Seattle in 2013 when he was promoting his memoir.

Duff McKagan Documentary 'It's So Easy And Other Lies' Begins Theatrical Run

Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan's new documentary, "It's So Easy And Other Lies: Live At The Moore", will begin a limited theatrical run in U.S. theaters starting May 26, according to The Pulse Of Radio. XLrator Media will present the film in 50 cities ahead of its arrival in Los Angeles on June 3. The film focuses on McKagan as he tells his life story in a live performance at Seattle's famed Moore Theatre in 2013.

Featuring exclusive archival footage, this authorized documentary chronicles Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee McKagan's meteoric rise to fame and fortune, his near-fatal struggles with alcohol and drug addiction, and his remarkable life transformation. The film features interviews with many of the people who took this wild ride, including a constellation of rock stars that rose to fame alongside him, and the people who inspired him to overcome his addictions. In a voice that is as honest as it is indelibly his own, Duff takes audiences on a harrowing journey through the dark heart of rock 'n' roll and out the other side.

"It's So Easy And Other Lies: Live At The Moore" was directed and produced by Christopher Duddy, produced by Daniel Zirilli and Steven G. Kaplan, and executive produced by Vision Films' Lise Romanoff, Gato Scatena, Jordan Rosner, Hans Stangl, Birgit Stein and Kati Thomson. Evan Saxon did the theatrical booking.
