Still don't really understand why the show was cut short. Maybe to allow the crew to get to bed earlier?

that is the only reason I can think of and even that doesn't seem to make much sense

According to the reports and fans who attended, there was chaos at the entrances (as there were only few of them, the tickets didn't include information about which section of the venue they were for, and also probably because the promoters sold more tickets than the capacity of the venue allowed). As a result, the stadium was only half-full even an hour after the band took the stage while people were in danger of getting crushed outside as they were pushing to get in (many of them never made it inside, even though they had tickets). It's still not clear why it wasn't safe for the band and what was wrong with the stage.
