The monsters can't get me
The monsters can't get me
The monsters can't get me
The monsters can't get me

A tour-de-force of an evil old passion
A broken heart that was out of fashion
Dynamic duo keep your figure crashing
My early warning was your satan laughing

I was there for you
It's all I could do
Oh but it's all burnt down
Oh but it's over now
I was there for you
It's all I could do
Oh but it's all burnt down
Oh but it's over now

The monsters can't kill me
The monsters can't kill me
The monsters can't help me
The monsters can't get mе

You stole my soul with the devil's romancing
All alonе in your bedroom, dancing
Thought I could feel somebody worth having
But in the end I guess you're good for the damage

I was there for you
It's all I could do
Oh but it's all burnt down
Oh but it's over now
I was there for you
It's all I could do
Oh but it's all burnt down
Oh but it's over now

The monsters can't kill me
The monsters can't kill me
The monsters can't get me
The monsters can't...

The more I did, what I did, I did for you
There's no excuses for the hell on Earth you put me through
I never cared how much I cared, when I cared for you
To make you better there was nothin' that I wouldn't do
I doubt there's anybody left that wants to know the truth
The dirty secret that you hid away inside of you
Who ever thought I'd be around to shed a light on you
Well here's the story, baby, I got nothin' else to do

I was there for you
It's all I could do
Oh but it's all burnt down
Oh but it's over now
I was there for you
It's all I could do
Oh but it's all burnt down
Oh but it's over now

I was there for you
It's all I could do

I was there for you
It's all I could do

(It's over)
(It's over)

I was there for you
(It's over)
(It's over now)

Quotes regarding the song and its making:

The bridge in "Elvis Presley and the Monster of Soul aka The Soul Monster (working title Leave Me Alone)" which will no doubt end up "Soul Monster". I think it's r most Black Sabbath moment. Sang it on a Christmas eve. Imo the meanest section of anything I've sung to date. Which having said that I'm sure when it's heard others may disagree but we felt it was a Christmas card of unadulterated venom so to speak. I felt a lot better afterward.

In 2003, composer Marco Beltrami mentioned the songs he had worked on, and included "Leave Me Alone" among them:

[Being asked which songs it were]: A song called "Seven," which is the one that I did the most work on, I actually did some writing on. There was one called "Thyme," one called "The General," one called "Leave Me Alone."

Looking at Axl's quote above about the bridge on Soul Monster - it fits perfectly with the bridge on Monsters. Taking the name similarity into account too, I find it highly likely Leave Me Alone/Elvis Prestley and the Monster of Soul/Soul Monster is an early version of Monsters.

Still, no point in merging threads now even if this is correct - this thread can remain for the Soul Monster version of the song and Monsters can be discussed in the The General thread (which will likely be renamed to The General - Monsters or whatever this two-part song is called).

With the verse line, "You stole my soul with the devil's romancing" I will conclude that this is really Soul Monster and change the thread accordingly.
