Former Skid Row singer and Peterborough, Ont., native Sebastian Bach may step in for Axl Rose in a new group being formed by Guns N’ Roses’ original members Slash, Duff McKagan, Izzy Stradlin and Matt Sorum.

Since being fired from Skid Row a few years ago, Bach landed the lead in Phantom of the Opera on Broadway and hosted his own TV show for VH1, among other endeavours. Sources say Bach is lobbying hard for the job after jamming with the group on several occasions, find that he is being seriously considered.

Slash says the band has heard about 500 singers. And they’re even open to a female lead singer.

“If we got a girl that sounded like Janis Joplin crossed with Joan Jett with a bit of Tina Turner, that would be rocking,” Slash says. “That would be an unprecedented move, because no one would expect that.”

Slash also weighs in on the GNR riot in Vancouver.

“Nothing surprises me. When he really has all his s__ together, Axl is brilliant, so it’ll be happening. It just takes him a while to get around to it. As far as showing up to gigs? That’s all par for the course. We’ve all seen that movie. What better way to kick off a Guns N’ Roses tour than to miss the first gig?”
