1987.09.DD - Crash (Germany) - Mothers, Lock Up Your Daughters... (Axl, Slash, Izzy, Duff) 1987-017

Translation by Soulmonster:
-----------------------------------

MOTHERS, lock up your daughters...

They arrived late in London because Axl had been hunted by the police in LA and ended up in the hospital; they also had to leave London at lightning speed after the band was chased by the owner of the apartment where they stayed for two weeks. It had something to do with a "strange stain" on the carpet - something tremendously disreputable - and that aptly describes how Guns n 'Roses do it...

Something has happened in LA - something fundamental: All these fairies with a double X in their name have been pressed against the wall by a handful of horny, greasy bands that usually hang out in a bar called "Cat Club" and in dark corners secretly fucking to the music of good old Sweet and Aerosmith, but otherwise prefers to listen to the Stones and Sex Pistols than Ratt and Bon Jovi. They have names like Faster Pussycat, LA Guns and, at the top of the pile of dirt - Guns n 'Roses: Izzy Stradlin and Slash: guitar. Axl Rose: vocals, Duff McKagan: bass, Steven Adler: drums.

They came from all directions and, like most, ended up in LA as one of many street bands in a city where there are no streets, just boulevards and freeways. And if you sit in the gutter for too long, one of these mobile city cleaning commands comes at some point and takes you into the desert. "Here everyone was rotated by the shortage", Duff describes the past. "At the age of 15 you play in many bands. At the beginning you don't really know what you want; primarily you just want to play. If you are lucky, you will meet the people with whom it works straight away. That's how it was with Guns n 'Roses.”

They caught two Hollywood groupies who were to support the band's livelihood. In return, the guns promised them sex, but did not fully honor their part of the bargain ... Axl: “It got really indecent. These two girls were man-mad and crazy about the band. Nobody would have missed that, especially none of us. So Slash threw them out, e.g. for drinks, food, oh, anything, without doing anything for it. However, there were some problems ... "

Then they moved to a small apartment, where they used the old Hollywood band trick: rent one month in advance and live for six more months free of charge - exactly the time it takes the owner to force them to move out. Slash: "No shower, no food, nothing at all! An uncomfortable jail cell. But - God knows - we had a damn good sound in there! We are a very loud band and we make no compromises when it comes to volume. So we pounded on it and our Marshalls boomed. And all in the tiny room! That was great because the noise attracted all the losers and bands from Sunset Boulevard who were hanging around with us all the time. We rehearsed and slept in one room. It was sometimes very hectic, but that prevented us getting fat and lazy.”

In the city of Hollywood, such stuff creates a reputation. Satin-jacketed record label people strolled down the boulevard, past the bums, the drunk and vomiting groupies, listened to the band and invited them to dinner. Guns n 'Roses enjoyed free food. "So we started to eat and now our clothes don't fit anymore!" They are now the proud owners of a record contract.

Guns n 'Roses used to look like any other LA-style band. Slash: “When we first appeared, Axl was still styling his hair and using make-up, but we have now completely gone away from such things. They still want to make us a glam band, but I don't give a shit because we are not! "

And so Guns n 'Roses have a special relationship with poser bands like Poison. Axl: "I personally explained to these guys that they could lock me up in a room with them, and I would be the only one who would come out safe, I swear to you."

They may not see themselves as apostles for the return of dirt in rock 'n' roll, but they are found to be a good by-product of this new wave. Slash: "Metal comes from sexual frustration!" According to the girls who they took with them to their apartment in London, they weren't so "sexually frustrated" at all. That would also explain the "strange stain" on the carpet ...

But back to the music. Izzy: "Our aim is to go on tour, travel and continue the great Guns n’ Roses adventure." Slash: "We want to play every day, enjoy ourselves and fuck as much as possible! You know what I really like to do? Travel to to Japan and mess up the people there! The best thing is to take some really bad porn with you and throw it down from the tallest building! "

Axl: "Either you love us or you hate us, but you will never be overlooked!"

The Axl quote about the two groupies are interesting, especially when he implied they had some problems with them. I assume he must be thinking about legal issues and that this refers to the case we have discussed extensively here: https://www.a-4-d.com/t4046p30-the-history-in-their-own-words#15565

I would have loved to see the original source, what Axl actually said in English. It doesn't make much sense that they would throw the girls out. And if these are the same girls as talked about before, here it is Slash throwing them out.

I'm under the impression Axl was actually referring to Vicky Hamilton and her roommate, Jennifer.

More so since you pointed out elsewhere that the quotes are very similar to those in this Kerrang article:
https://www.a-4-d.com/t479-1987-06-11-kerrang-colt-heroes
where it's clear that Axl is referring to Vicky.

You are right. The quote is definitely copied from Kerrang!
