The Lost Articles
@Blackstar and I discussed missing interviews and articles in another thread. I decided to start its own thread on this topic.
The band played its first gig in March 1985. But form 1985 we don't have any interviews or review or articles besides the radio interview they did already back in March 1985 with KPFK. Complete silence until well into 1986 when the band was being signed. Surely there must have been some mentions of the band in this period in local magazines and newspapers. The KPFK interview can't be the only one.
And then sporadically through the following years we know we miss some interviews and articles that are mentioned in books and other articles. Blackstar provided a list of some of these:
Music Connection December 1987
Hit Parader December 1987
RIP February 1990
Circus May 1988
Rock Scene August 1988
Blast Magazine April 1989
Kerrang! July 1988
Kerrang! July 1987
Burrrn February 1989
Blast Magazine May 1988
RIP May 1990
Roogalator, May 1990
RAW May-June 1991
Raw October 1991
Kerrang! July 1988.
Circus April 30 1989
Raw December 27 1989
Vox January 1991
Melody Maker August 10, 1991
But surely there are more. Please add to this thread any other we know are missing from our archives. Then we have targets to look for. I have already ordered some of the articles above, and some others I just found. I will post about this in the next post in the thread.

Circus October 1991
Hit Parader March 1992
Kerrang May 2, 1992

With "picked" you mean you have bought or found them? And that will be included in our database?

Re: The Lost Articles
In the back of Marc Canter's book there are a few pictures of magazines he's got with GN'R on the front cover. I suppose many of these will be missing from our database, too. I have to go through it later, hopefully it is possible to see what date they are from.

It turns out we have it from before but it has been erroneously dated and with the wrong magazine name in our database. Will correct the mistake.

I think Burrn is in Japanese? We will need someone to translate it for us.

Yes, hopefully there will be an OCR that can help out.
I have high hopes for interviews in Burrrn from December 1988. Always good to hear what the band had to say at that time, they might have opened a bit more since they knew it would end up in a Japanese magazine, and there might be unknown stuff there.

Re: The Lost Articles
There are so many magazines we miss. And if we miss them, they are likely to not be well-circulated among fans because to some extent the library we have is based on magazines that have been floating around in pdf format and text files. So I wonder if our perception of the band and its history will be significantly adjusted as we obtain and read these missing interviews? Can there be much new information there? I would think that if there is anything major in these missing interviews and articles, it would have also been covered in the books and biographies written about the band. But we'll see

It seems you've bought a bunch of NME and Melody Maker issues (among others), @Soulmonster!
I have found online (in image and pdf) a Melody Maker issue from October 1992 with an Izzy interview that I haven't uploaded yet.

Oooh, Izzy interviews are always interesting. Hopefully he will look back at GN'R.
I actually bought a bunch of clippings from someone on eBay. Didn't know what it contained until I opened it. I am finished uploading the stuff now.

Yes, they are.
I've also found an unidentified (=unknown original source) quote from Izzy.
I'm thinking of starting a thread with unidentified quotes, because I've come across a few other quotes (in books, later articles and forums) which I can't locate the original sources of.

Re: The Lost Articles
I've got a Slash interview from the first issue of the Australian Hot Metal Mag in Dec '88. If someone sends me their email address I'll scan it an email it. I haven't seen this anywhere else.
I've got an Izzy interview from '89 as well from Metal Hammer or maybe a german magazine or something. I've seen parts of this interview posted elsewhere, but I've got the full original which I should be able to find.
The other thing I have that I haven't seen around on youtube is an LP interview with Slash. The interview is called Nice Boys and was from one of the '87 UK tours from memory. I haven't listened to it in probably 20 years, but remember it being a really cool unique interview - Slash talking about his classical influences and how it could only ever be the 5 of them. I have it on LP and can't transfer but you can probably get it on ebay or EIL or something.
The other thing I've heard pretty reliably exists, but have never seen it anywhere is a TV interview from 1986. I think it was with a local LA channel possibly a cable channel but I can't remember its name. That would be a great find.

Hi Euchre,
That's awesome. You can scan and send to admin@a-4-d.com.
Tried looking for the '87 Slash interview on eBay without luck. If you can remember the channel that aired the '86 interview that would be great, too.

Re: The Lost Articles
I found the Slash one, but couldn't find the Izzy one, but I did find a whole heap I'd forgotten about.
I can't remember where I heard about the 86 TV interview, but it was someone credible. Not sure if you can get in touch with Marc Canter, but someone like that would be the person to ask.
I've just emailed all the interviews now, plus some links with info and where you can buy the Nice Boys Slash interview. There should be 19 emails altogether come through - let me know if any don't make it.

Looks like at least 1 email has bounced for being too large, so let me know how many do make it through and we'll sort out a way to get the big emails across.

Here's an unidentified quote:
Duff: We've got a young stud for a bus driver, and it turns out he used them all the time!" - Duff McKagan on condoms.
It is from Blast! May 28, 1988. The magazine is full of such quotes with no sources.
