Quotes:
The Replacements were one of my favorite bands. I remember seeing The Replacements opening for X when I was 14, and Tommy was my age. You know what's funny is that I met Tommy on a session with Yoshiki years and years ago. After that we became like best friends. [Ultimate Guitar, November 2008] |

Tommy Stinson worked very well taking the band through the rehearsals for Las Vegas and Rock In Rio [Axl interview Rock & Pop FM Argentina, Rock & Pop FM, January 22nd 2001] |
Tommy's one of my best friends, and he has been for a while. We've done loads of recording sessions together. And with all of the other people that are involved with Guns N' Roses, it's a pretty unbelievable band [We're catching our groove again now; Albany NY Times Union Thursday, November 21, 2002] |
Tommy, who was always a punk guy, knows I grew up with a lot of that stuff, and we connect on that level [HTGTH, September 2010] |
Tommy is a great fucking guy, and I always come away glad when our paths have crossed over the years [Seattle Weekly, Reverb, October, 2010] |
Tommy and I, we get along great. He's one of a kind, man. I tell you, the first time he walked into the studio, I said, 'Dude, that's the guy.' He hadn't even played a note, but I could just tell. He's everything you need to be a bass player in a rock band. I don't want to say he takes control, but he does sort of guide us through rehearsals and, to me, it's important to have someone in that position. He's inspirational and he brings so much to the table. It could be any band - if he's committed to them, he's going to make them a thousand times better [twincities.com, November 2011] |
Talking about band interacting during the 2011 shows: Now we're trying to figure out how to interact with each other a little bit more on the stage, you know, and how far to take it. Tommy was slamming me the other night, and then, the next night, I was just having fun, but wait I realized, I got him in a headlock! [laughs] [Eddie Trunk interview, November 2011] |
When I got the call to audition [in GN'R], Tommy Stinson was already one of my best friends. I was a huge Replacements fan growing up and I think Tommy is an amazing songwriter and musician [Maximum Ink Music, December 2011] |

Re: Tommy Stinson
Another Rock Star photo worthy of a big poster. Kat Benzova and whoever is paying her are doing right by these guys. I look forward to these tour photos appearing in a book someday, a book the band members can be proud of appearing in.Soulmonster wrote:

Re: Tommy Stinson
Very nicely edited little webTV blurb on Tommy making music in Beirut pub along with Nader from (cool name) the Wanton Bishops on harp. I really enjoyed the format, especially as it was all Tommy hanging with patrons and musicians and no unnecessary voice over to inform viewers who have no idea who he is.

Re: Tommy Stinson
Rock legend dishes up chicken at hospital
In the Columbia Memorial Hospital cafeteria, musicians Tommy Stinson and Chip Roberts cooked their special Uncle Sippy’s Braised Chicken recipe. Those who bought the chicken dinner were entered into a drawing for a signed copy of Stinson’s latest album, “One Man Mutiny.”
Tommy Stinson wears many hats, most of them musical, since he was the multi-instrumentalist for the Replacements and is the current bass player for Guns N’ Roses, but Thursday he wore an altogether different type of hat — line cook.
Stinson is a resident of Columbia County and took time from his schedule to engage the community and showcase his cooking skills in the cafeteria at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
So what’s a former member of one of America’s greatest post-punk bands doing in the kitchen?
“It’s great to cook,” he said. “I spent so many years on the road eating out.”
Stinson was invited to serve at the hospital by Richelle Martin, hospital retail dietary manager, and per diem cook Chip Roberts, also a resident of Columbia County.
Roberts is Stinson’s uncle, and played slide guitar on “One Man Mutiny,” Stinson’s second solo album released in 2011. Two albums Stinson made with the Replacements — “Pleased to Meet Me” and “Tim” — are considered by many to be American rock classics.
Martin said Roberts loves to cook and feels the hospital staff prepares great meals and wanted to promote that to the community. He had suggested involving Stinson for a while, and Martin said everything finally fell into place.
Stinson and Roberts prepared a dish named Uncle Sippy’s braised chicken thighs. It features Uncle Sippy’s Seasoning Blend which Roberts created for Cento Fine Foods.
At the cooking station in the cafeteria, Stinson was simmering artichoke hearts and cooking the cannellini beans while Roberts was braising the thighs.
“I’m slowly getting over my fear of hospitals,” Stinson joked as he posed for a picture for a fan.
Roberts said he and Stinson had been cooking together for about six years. Roberts has a home studio, and when he and Stinson are not recording or on the road, they work together in the kitchen.
Carlton Jackson, who works in the cafeteria, said he was glad that Roberts and Stinson were promoting the hospital.
“I think it’s good for the kitchen staff,” he said. “We work really hard and provide great food for the community.”
Everyone who purchased the thighs also had the chance to fill out a raffle ticket to win an autographed vinyl or CD of One Man Mutiny.
Stinson’s next community endeavor is Hudson Pride Foundation’s Musical Workshop, being held 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Hudson Opera House, 327 Warren St.

Re: Tommy Stinson
Lots of respect for Tommy here right now. I just transcribed an interview with him where he talked about wistfully looking back at his Replacements career and wished he had "done things better" without really knowing what he could have done differently and then talking about how the Haitian kids took his heart and how he's then been working to raise money for the Timkatec project. Just a stand up guy. And he never bullshitted us when he was in GN'R.
