The Roxy gigs were legitimate gigs compared to the Troubadour, where you could always manage to get a spot -- maybe not a weekend night, but a Monday or Tuesday.

I ended up trying to sell seventeen tickets outside the club the night of the show, and by the time the band was scheduled to go on, I was offering tickets for less than the box office price. They were required to sell one hundred advance tickets for this gig, a considerable number to require of an opening band.
The band was pleased at the turnout and they ended the set within their allotted time. They knew not to screw with the Roxy by trying to extend their set, as they had done at Madame Wong's East and at the Stardust, because it was a premier venue and they wanted to be able to play there again in the future.
