DUFF MCKAGAN ON HAZARDS OF THE MUSIC BIZ

No one knows yet if former Guns N' Roses bass player Duff McKagan is a casualty of the recent merger that affected Geffen, A&M, Polygram, and several other big labels. One thing is or certain -- young bands are the most likely to be dropped by their labels. McKagan tells us the next big band of the decade could have been let go already] "You know what? If U2 came out now, maybe they have but they've been dropped already. If U2 would have started now they would have been dropped. There's no nurturing of bands anymore. Someone's already signed a U2, or another something…. but they didn't have a hit single so they got dropped. I feel bad for kids who are starting bands. They're all trying to write a single. It's not the same as it was ten years ago, when you knew that at the label when they signed you it was all about the third record."
