2014.04.07 - Ultimate Classic Rock - Duff McKagan's First Full Concert with GN'R since 1997
Duff McKagan returned to Guns N' Roses last night (April 6), playing the first of five concerts in South America while regular GNR bassist Tommy Stinson prepares for his own reunion with the Replacements.
Axl Rose, giving a tongue-in-cheek welcome for a collaborator who worked with GNR from 1985–1997, asked fans at Estadio Ferrocarril Oeste in Buenos Aires, Argentina to give "a hearty welcome to the new guy, Mr. Duff McKagan."
McKagan was featured on vocals during a cover of the Misfits' 'Attitude,' and the Stooges' 'Raw Power' over the course of a set that also included familiar cuts from his earlier tenure like 'Welcome to the Jungle,' 'Sweet Child O' Mine,' 'November Rain,' 'Used to Love Her' and, as part of the encore, 'Patience' and 'Paradise City.' Ironically, he'd last played on stage as a member of Guns N' Roses in Argentina, nearly two decades back.
"It's pretty great to play these songs again," McKagan said in a statement. "And l'm looking forward to playing some gigs with my pal again. South America is always a radical place for rock 'n' roll ... and I'm honored to be doing this thing, in that place."
McKagan will also appear in Guns N' Roses show set for April 9 at Asuncion, Paraguay, April 12 at La Paz, Bolivia, April 15 at Recife, Brazil on April 15 and April 17 at Fortaleza, Brazil. He had previously joined Rose on stage for a few songs in 2010 and 2011 before rumors started swirling last week about these new shows.
