Slash: You know, I don’t really want to put out Axl on the spot by saying that. The funny thing is, though, when we did that song, Set Me Free, and we put it out for the Hulk, our manager got a phone call from Jimmy Iovine wanting to get a copy, and I know [it was] because Axl wanted to hear it. But, I mean, he’s definitely the most critical of what it is that Duff and myself have been doing over the years - I know that much - and he’ll definitely be interested to see what it sounds like. But I don’t really care whether he’s jealous, or not jealous, or whatever the thing is (chuckles). We’ve spent so much time away from him that the Guns N’ Roses thing is sort of an old kind of thing. There’s no real resentment left anymore. It’s not really a bitter thing, it’s just something that we did. I’m very proud of it though (?).

Duff: The bigger the band – when the band was at its best was at the beginning, when there was democracy and it was kind of like a gang, you know, we were a family and... As the band got bigger and the entourage got bigger, I think Slash and I kept pretty humble about the thing and it was about the music (?).

Slash: Yeah, we hung in there. The last... how many years? From what, like, ’90 – from ’89, ’90 all the way up to ’93 was really just an exercise in tenaciousness (laughs).

Duff: Yeah.

I had archived this interview February 2005, but it turns out it's from March 2004.
