Guns N’ Roses give fans money’s worth in Toronto

TORONTO — About 45,000 heavy-metal fans rocked into the wee hours of the morning yesterday at a Guns Ν' Roses-Metallica concert at Exhibition Stadium.
“They were better here than in Montreal," said Frank Gismondi, 22, of nearby Concord. “(There) they played five songs and left — then it went crazy.” Last month, 12 people were arrested as fans rampaged at Olympic Stadium after Guns N’ Roses lead singer Axl Rose cut short his performance, apparently because he had a sore throat. Hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage was reported.
At the Canadian National Exhibition grounds on Lake Ontario, however, the band played so late fans were too tired to make trouble.
“There were tons of cops around." said Clint Cummings. 17, of suburban Scarborough. “You couldn’t do anything if you wanted to.”
Scalpers were getting up to $150 for $36 tickets for the concert.
“They were worth every penny,” said Dave Carroll, 19, of Ottawa.
