Holy Shit! I just spotted this pasted below in the GNR in the NEWS side bar. Etta James is phenomenal. I've heard great covers of her songs but I never would have guess she'd cover WTTJ. I'll be getting this album. bless Ms. James.
Did any of you already know about this and I just missed it? Any other covers of GNR songs worth listening to?

POP/ROCK: Etta James, "The Dreamer" (Verve Forecast)

By all indications, this will be James' last album
-- the 73-year-old R&B great is reported to be in the last stages of
leukemia. If it is, then the singer of such immortals as "Tell Mama"
and "At Last" is going out on a high note.

"The Dreamer" presents James' trademark blend of
sophistication and sass. She can still display some grit, as she does on
the jump-blues chestnut "Too Tired" and a groove-heavy reworking of
Guns 'N Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle."
She sounds just as at home,
however, with the elegant balladry of Ray Charles' "In the Evening" and
Johnny "Guitar" Watson's "That's the Chance You Take." And her versions
of two Otis Redding slow-burners -- "Champagne and Wine" and "Cigarettes
and Coffee" -- are about as deep as soul gets.

I didn't know there were whole albums covering GNR. I do have the Kiss My Ass album of Kiss covers. A copy was in my car stereo the last time it was stolen. That deck sucked anyway but the album is kind of good. The Sheryl Crow cover of Sweet Child was forgettable. I forgot about that one. I'd be interested in hardcore covers of GNR songs.

Just gave it a listen. I think it's great too and I bet Axl and Slash are both pleased with it as well. I didn't know about it at all and sure am sorry Etta James has leukemia.

We all got to die, but not every one of us will make a great Guns N' Roses cover.
