The future of Guns N' Roses Empty The future of Guns N' Roses

Post by Soulmonster Mon Jan 02, 2012 11:01 am

Back in the late 90's I never believed I would hear more music from Guns N' Roses. For me, after old guns breaking up, it was over. Then with the endless postponements of Chinese Democracy I was afraid the record would only be released posthumously. After its release and no promotion I feared that it was the last we would hear from Axl, that it was his swan song and that he would retire from the whole business. The tour start in 2009 made me more positive that Guns N' Roses might be a band also for the future. The great tour in 2010 strengthened this. 2011 had interviews, live streams, band members talking about recording in 2012, new management that I believe is on Axl's side, deal with Azoff, and website under construction. So basically, I haven't been this positive about the future of Guns N' Roses in many, many years. If the band actually keeps the momentum up and goes into the studio now, there could actually be new music in 2013, and even in 2012 if they just focus on the songs they already have.

I agree, back in 1996 when there was news that Slash had left the band, I didn't believe much would be coming... Only much later when I heard "IRS" (bad sound quality mp 3 in 2005), I started believing in the Chinese Democracy thing. Yeah it took much too long, but I always hoped it would be out someday. Same goes for a follow-up. Exactly when is anybody's guess though.

Management now done by Beta and her kids, can't be too bad, as they are close to Axl and understand him. I hope they can deal with the label, lawyers etc., to keep GNR a force to be reckoned with!

What I am afraid is that Axl will slip into an unproductive phase and there will be many years wasted again. I just don't believe he was not a big reason for all the postponements of CD. But he seems to be really fine now, in a good headspace, so I hope this will also translate to some efficient studio sessions and release of a follow-up in a timely manner.

When it comes to Beta it is hard to say how that will play out. On one hand she definitely knows Axl and probably how to handle him and get the best out of him. And her loyalty to him should be obvious. On the other hand, does she have the necessary business contacts, does she have the negotiation skills to arrange contracts, tours, promotions deals, etc? I dunno. I guess we just have to wait and see what happens now. But if she is responsible for the live streams, the new web site, the recent Axl interview, then it really looks promising.

And loads of people believed that there will be no US tour and that it'll be a fiasco with many cancelled shows.
Probably the new release will take some time but IMO this lineup works well together and they are enthusiastic to go to the sudio. On the other hand when they'll go to the studio and how long it will take depends wholly on Axl and he proved once that the album can be postponed for ever. Let's hope he learned his lesson.
